First off I didnt buy these off amazon. I got them at Lowes for the same price. When I went there I only wanted one bit, but the price for just one was 17 dollars and it was 50 dollars for the whole set. You do the math. For the money these seem like good bits. I used multiple sizes in some solid maple and they all cut clean holes quickly. These bits also seem to clear chips out quite well. If you have the money to get a nicer set of bits like a similar Freud set then by all means get those, I have used better forstner bits before but for 50 bucks this is a pretty complete set and a handy case to keep them in, The plastic the bits sit in is relatively substantial not just that cheesy box of chocolates molded plastic you sometimes find in a box like this. I certainly do not expect these to last forever but for occasional use these are the perfect set to give you precise and clean holes.

I bought this set a few weeks ago. I've used it multiple times and have found the hole edges to be crisp and accurate. There is some tear out at the bottoms (if you are not drilling through) but it is certainly acceptable (and not important for my purposes). The box it comes in is very high quality. As with any forstner bit, but particularly the larger sizes, you must drill at slow (did I say slow) speeds or you will over heat the bit and ruin the temper of the metal. There are charts which can assist you in finding the recommended speeds. Also it is important to realize, if drilling in hard woods the speed must be lower than in soft woods. Beware of using any high carbon steel bit in man made products such as MDF or Melamine. If drilling in these products you should really be using carbide bits. For the money, these are certainly a great deal. My 5 star rating is post in context that this cost $50.00 and is an excellent buy.

I have found these to be decent import quality carbon steel bits at a very good price. All of the bits have respectably sharp cutting edges and have worked well in the maple and pine that I've used them on so far, leaving nice smooth, clean holes with only a tiny dimple remaining in the bottom center. Using a drill press on low speed and a very slow, even feed rate seems to work best with most of these bits. Especially so with the larger 1-1/2", 1-5/8", 2" and 2-1/8" bits. For these larger bits PC recommends 500-RPM in soft wood and 250-RPM in hardwoods.The advertising blurb on the package says that these bits are over a $200.00 value when purchased individually. Even though it may be based on retail pricing, that claim may be a little bit of an embellishment on Porter Cables part. They are very nice, but IMO, this is not a $200.00+ set of forstner bits one way or the other.The clear plastic topped wood storage case that comes with these is also pretty decent and holds the bits securely while preventing the cutting edges of the individual bits from contacting each other. Even though mine was in the original factory sealed blister packaging, I noticed that the bottom already had some rather deep scratches and scrapes, probably from being caught on a conveyer belt or skidded across the factory floor in China, on its way to final packaging. This isn't an issue for me as I couldn't care less, but if you're picky about that sort of thing, it may be problem for you if you purchase online and can't inspect before buying.Overall, considering how well they have worked and the price I paid here on Amazon, I'm pleased with this set, and have no problem recommending it.
