Metric solution to US pride

Local hardware stores (including the big guys) carry metric parts with metric instructions. This requires the right metric bit unless a bigger, sloppy hole is okay. In my case, I was trying to install 15mm cam screws to hold pieces of a bed together. This required a 15mm Forstner bit which is available nowhere but online. I bought this set just for that bit, hoping the other bits would be useful as well.As I also used 3/8" hex head bolts with 1" washers, I needed to countersink the washer and nut combo to make it flush. My 1" SAE bit was too tight. The 26mm bit in this kit was perfect. I plan on using the 35mm bit for some concealed hinges on my next project.My only complaint with this set is that the bits are not quite as sharp as they could be with what looks like small chips on the edges, but I didn't want to spend $550 for some of the German sets I've seen. Overall, using them in a drill press with even pressure worked quite nicely and did the job I needed.Note: When are we as Americans going to get with the program and go metric so we don't have to buy two sets of everything?

Great forstner bit set!

This CMT metric forstner bit set is just what the doctor ordered for cabinet work. European cup hinges usually require a 35mm bit, but there are alternate sizes on the market. Also, the drawer face attaching mechanisms require yet another metric bit.Rather than buying these things individually, CMT has put together a very nice set.Thanks, guys!

Product Description

Precision Shear Forstner Bits feature a double-ground, razor-sharp serrated edge that slices throughout the rotation of the bit for less splintering and chipping, producingflawless flat-bottom holes. This unique geomtric design has multiple cutting edges that produce greater shearing action, allowing for faster rotational speeds and more efficient cutting. Competitive forstner bit designs produce small chips and dust that collect in the cutting area, increasing friction and heat, thus causing the bit to dull quickly. Those designs also create holes with rough edges that require sanding. In addition to serrated edges, Precision Shear Forstner Bits include a hardened steel body for longer life and sharper edge, an ultra sharp spur to ensure accurate holes and less "walking", and steep angled cutting edges to produce holes that are smooth and flat. This set contains 1: 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", 1", 3/8", 5/8" and 7/8" bits.

These Made in Austria drill bits are worth every penny. The steel and production quality is worlds better than any Chinese made product. The sides and bottom of holes is incredibly smooth, even when using a cordless drill. Using these in a decent drill press would provide even better performance. Just be certain to keep the drill RPMs low when using the larger size bits. Highly recommended. The cost savings in purchasing the set is well justified, as the larger bits are $13/each or more in retail stores. Double check the packaging when they arrive, as the first set ordered had broken through the blister packaging and rattled against each other in the box; becoming damaged. The new set arrived in perfect condition, thanks Amazon!You will not be dissapointed. MADE IN AUSTRIA.

I am a professional furniture maker and I was very impressed with these bits. The correct "107B" set, made in Austria, was shipped the first time. They cut quickly and the serrated edge seems to reduce blowout at the exit hole even if you don't use scrap to back up the cut. (See photo.) I bought the set to save money since I needed the 3/8" size and several of my old bits were damaged. I don't see any reason to buy a chinese set when this is available at this price.

Great set of bits

One of my friends borrowed my shop to drill probably 50 1" holes in a maple stump. Afterward the bit looked and felt just like it did when I got it. Seems like a very well made set of bits with plenty of life.

Milwaukee makes great tools. The 4-Piece Forstnet Bit Set meets most of my needs. I wish I could buy individual Forstner bits from Amazon.com more easily. The one store in my town carrying Milwaukee parts has few choices and the choices are expensive.

poor quality not up to Milwaukee standards, poor machining very poor chip clearance--i would never buy them again or recommend them --they are made in China and there is a possibility that the ones I got are counterfeit--they are in he process of being returned to Milwaukee for evaluation

Returned item-arrived defective (rusty)

If this wouldn't have been a gift, I wouldn't have minded the discoloration that appeared to be surface rust. However it was a gift and I returned it promptly for a full refund. Unfortunately they didn't send me a pre-paid label so I'm out the $10 it cost to return it.
