I bought these bits to enable me to drill flat bottom holes in some various woods, and to drill very clean holes for some other projects. These bits are working very well for me. I have tried them in 3 different types of material; pine, plywood and Masonite. They have performed well in all materials. To get the best results, you need to use them from a drill press to assure the cleanest cuts and edges. Be sure to secure your material and start your cuts slowly so the edges don't catch and try to move your work around (especially if your hole will be on an edge).The bits have a notch in the outer turning edge which seems to keep them from heating up as much as other similar bits I have used in the past. One great benefit to these is the very nice wood case they come with. I really like the case because it keeps them together, has a spot for each bit and protects their cutting surfaces. The storage box itself is made from wood, with a plastic see through section on the top. The center part that holds the bits is plastic molded and the bits "snap" into position, staying as you placed them.5 stars for exceeding expectations, the great case and cool running clean cutting bits.

These are pretty nice as far as forstner bits go. They come in a nice wooden case, which is great for storage. In my opinion Freud bits are better, but at about $20 each, these can't be beat!!

Nothing like Forstner bits for cutting a straight true hole. Boring that hole through 4" of pine makes one appreciate a good tool like this. Yes, a spade bit could do it but it would look nasty and it takes a bit more muscle than I have. Go ahead and get the full set, which will cover almost all needs you'll have, and treat yourself to the pleasure of beautiful smooth straight holes in wood.
